ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (May 31, 2005) – Communications Technology, Inc. (COMTek), the fastest and most reliable high-speed broadband service provider available in the U.S. Virgin Islands, today announced plans to expand broadband services to St. Croix by the end of July 2005. As its first foray into St. Croix, COMTek acted as the official broadband provider to the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) Annual Conference, which was held in St. Croix from May 18-24, 2005.

COMTek first will establish connectivity in Christianisted and then roll out its broadband services in phases to the rest of the island. At the ACCP meeting, COMTek successfully demonstrated its broadband Internet access for such applications as wireless point-to-point transmission, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and remote wireless video surveillance throughout St. Croix’s Carambola Beach Resort, the site of the event. In addition to the services COMTek provided for the conference, other business partners also included: IBM, which provided 12 laptop computers for the COMTek Cyber Café, and BrightStar, which provided networking products.

COMTek officials said that the superior quality of the firm’s broadband services means that its clients will be able to use it for such cutting-edge applications as VoIP phone service, wireless remote video surveillance, telemedicine and video conferencing. Such applications cannot be conducted currently in the U.S. Virgin Islands in any kind of consistent or otherwise satisfactory fashion.
