How does COMTek Broadband Services work?

COMTek Broadband Services utilizes advanced wireless technology to provide secure Internet connections for homes and businesses. Our direct peering connection with Tier 1 Internet Service Providers ensures fast and reliable access to the Internet.

Is this service the same as "satellite" Internet?
No, wireless broadband transmits data from our towers directly over the air to your home or business.  Many satellite systems require a phone line and modem to transmit data.  In addition, data must travel 23,500 miles up to the satellite and back to reach the network.  The time it takes to travel this distance makes it difficult for some applications (for example, VPNs, voice, and gaming) to run correctly.  This round trip delay is nearly a full second in satellite transmission. Our systems don't suffer from this delay.

How do I find out if I qualify for COMTek Broadband Services?
Our wireless broadband coverage area will continue to grow in the coming months. Visit our web site for more information or contact our office at 888.9COMTek (888.926.6835). We will need to conduct a site survey prior to confirming eligibility for our broadband services.

Will I need special equipment or software to use COMTek Broadband Services?

Customers will need a computer with an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) that is running MS Windows 98SE/2000/XP. Your computer must have a minimum of 10MB of hard disk space in addition to at least 2MB of RAM. You must also have the CD that contains your original operating system software.

Communication Technologies will provide and install the wireless customer premises equipment (CPE) in addition to the goCOMTek PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) software for MS Windows 98SE/2000/XP. Net Start and Net Express customers will need to use the goCOMTek PPPoE software to connect to the Internet unless they provide PPPoE capable hardware, such as Linksys or D-Link Cable/DSL Router.

Communication Technologies will provide and install the wireless customer premises equipment (CPE) for all Net Pro and Net Pro Plus customers. These customers must also have their own router (if needed).

Customers who rent or lease their home or office space may need to get permission for Communication Technologies to install the wireless broadband CPE on their premises using the Equipment Installation Release Form.
